From the scientific and technical point of view, an novel methodology to asses the environmental risk of chemicals spills is developed in this research project.

From the social and economic point of view, the developed methodology improves the management of harbors, complying the environmental legislation, and supporting a key economic activity.

This methodology serves as a reference for the development of contingency plans, designing environmental monitoring programs and management of environmental hazards as a whole.

These advances contribute, to national and international level, to a greater protection of the marine environment, and to reduce the costs involving control, management and mitigation of chemical spills.
